Where the Past Is Present… Where the Arts Are Alive

For Teachers

The Fredericksburg Area Museum and Cultural Center is an extension of your classroom and offers a variety of specialized learning opportunities for you and your students, all based on Virginia’s SOL’s. Students learn about Virginia Indians and early settlement, the impact of the Rappahannock on Fredericksburg’s development as a Port Town, the experience of the Civil War on soldiers and civilians, and gain a better understanding of the causes of the Civil War.

The mission of the Fredericksburg Area Museum and Cultural Center’s education department is to provide inquiry-based experiences for adults and youth, which are interactive, hands-on and engaging. Programs communicate our local history and contemporary culture while creating a link from the past to the Fredericksburg region’s culturally diverse present.  For educators, these programs are directly linked to the Virginia Standards of Learning.
