Membership FAQs

Q: Do I need to have my membership card with me to visit the Museum or attend members-only events?

A: Yes, you should present your card for all Museum events, the Museum Store, or admission desk; however, if you forget your card, a current membership list is kept at these locations. Should you misplace or damage your card, you may request a new one by calling 540-371-3037 ext. 135. Please allow 7–14 days for delivery.

Q: How long does it take to receive my membership materials once I’ve sent in my payment?

A: We strive to mail out all permanent Membership cards within 7–10 business days, but due to high volume, it can sometimes take up to 3 weeks. If you plan to visit the Museum before you have received your card, stop by the Museum’s Information Desk, and you will be issued a temporary card.

Q: Are memberships tax-deductible?

A: Memberships in excess of $15 are tax-deductible according to IRS guidelines. Consult with your tax professional for complete information. Your membership acknowledgment letter serves are your tax receipt for your contribution.

Q: Can I loan my membership card to a friend?

A: Membership cards are not transferrable and may only be used by the member. For a Family Membership, membership cards may only be used by family members living at the member address.

Q: I already renewed my membership-why did I receive another renewal notice?

A: It probably crossed in the mail with your renewal gift. FAMCC’s renewal notices are sent, like those of many other nonprofit organizations, on an advance mail schedule. If you have received your Member card, this verifies your renewal payment was received and processed. Please disregard any further renewal notices that you may receive. To check your membership expiration date, please call 540-371-3037 ext. 135.

Q: Will my membership renewal date always be the same month each year?

A: Yes, as long as you renew your membership within two months after the expiration date. If you renew after your “grace period,” you will receive a new renewal date that corresponds with your new gift.
